Bhutan Trekking

Trekking in BhutanNo one seems to know exactly the meaning of the word Bhutan but it is believed that it is derived from `Bhot’ which is the name given by Tibetans to their own country and `Tan’ which is a corruption of the word `stan’ meaning Land. The Bhutanese however prefer to call their country `Druk-Yul’ which means `The Land of the Dragon’. Bhutan is renowned for its undiluted cultures and unspoiled natural wonders. Bhutan’s past is still its present.
The term trekking is traditionally applied to overland journeys made on foot, usually involving the support of a trek crew to carry personal belongings, along with any tents, food and cooking equipment that may be required. Over the last 20 years Adventure Silk Road has developed a superb range of trekking . The cultural tour to Bhutan will give you insights to the people, the culture, the traditions, religion and ecology of the country. These tours will take you through some of the most picturesque landscapes of spectacular mountain ranges to the lush green valleys. One will see the unique architectural splendors of the Dzongs, monasteries and the traditional Bhutanese houses and witness some intriguing religious festivals. You will also get the opportunity to taste the exotic Bhutanese cuisine and meet the friendly people.
Trekking in BhutanThe Adventure Silk Road is the ultimate challange for those who seek real adventure. It requires a high level of fitness and stamina and good acclimatization to the altitude. The area is the least- trekked region in the whole of the Himalaya. Fewer than 100 people have followed this route since the opening of the country to tourism in 1974. For those who are well prepared, this trek is immensely rewarding in terms of the physical challenge and the charming scenes.  The Adventure Silk Road first follows the route of the Linghshi-Laya trek. It continues beyond Laya under the shadow of the icy summits of the eastern Himalayas, skirting the edges of turquoise blue lakes and arriving at the remote village of Lunana in the country’s far north. Here the peaks of the range of mountains are all between 6000mts and 7400mts high and they mark the border with Tibet.
As you trek to such a far-flung corner of the country, you will come across villages and nomad encampments where time stands still. Enjoy the hospitality of the nomads and sip yak-butter tea in their black, yak-hair tents. Crossing more than eight passes and reaching an altitude of about 18,480 ft. this will be the most rewarding and challenging trek you will ever undertake. Today, Mt. Gangkar Punsum is the world's highest unclimbed peak and it will remain so because of the religious belief that the mountains are the home of the Gods and Goddesses and as such must remain sacred and undisturbed. Season: The Snowman trek is frequently closed because of snow. The recommended season for this trek is mid June to mid October. Since summer is the rainy season, you should prepare suitable clothing.
