Yeti Airlines and its subsidiary Tara Air combine to form the largest domestic airline in Nepal; the group has more than 60% of the total market share as of January 2008.
However, the airline has a history of accidents and has had the most accidents resulting in deaths among airlines in Nepal. Together, Yeti Airlines and Tara Air have the widest domestic flight network of any Nepali airline and fly to most destinations in Nepal.
The STOL aircraft of Tara Air serve much of the isolated population of Nepal who live in remote areas, Whilst the BAe Jetstreams of Yeti serve the more substantial regional airports.
Most of the remote areas of Nepal do not have road links. Therfore cargo to these places are still carried by people on airlifted. The airfields in most of these areas are STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) airfields.
Yeti Airlines operates regular flights to these areas with Candian built DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft. The Cargo capicity varies from 1200 Kgs to 1600 Kgs depending on the altitude and the type of airfield. Besides Kathmandu there are three hubs where road transport have easy acccess and the flights are regularly operated from these hubs.
